What is Linux? |
Linux is a operating system that is free to download. Linux is
is free because it is called "Open Source-Code", meaning that anybody, and everybody work on it! However you
can purchase a linux flavor from a retail store. You may ask why should i purchase it if its free
there are two main reasons that i can think of. First of all if you purchase it you purchase tech support
and secondly you don't have to download 3 600+ MB cds. |
Where can I get Linux? |
You can buy a Linux flavor at any retail store, and you can
download any flavor of Linux at the distrobution's website, such as
Mandrake. I however recomend that you visit Linux ISO for all the
quickest links for all flavors of linux. |
What is the best flavor? |
They all have there goods and bads. However, I personally like Mandrake
I like the setup program, the include programs, and the look and feel of their login screen. Should you choose to
go with mandrake (I will be writing all guides inside Mandrake) you will need to download all 3 cds. |
I have the cds, how do I install? |
For starters you need to grab cd 1, and insert it into your cdrom drive and reboot
your computer, if you do not have a bootable cdrom drive you need to make a bootable floppy. As your computer boots it will
load a bootstrap program off of the disk and go into a second stage of the install. |
